The Chef's tale

I just had to write to you and tell you how pleased I am with your software!! I have been a Personal Chef for 8 years and have gone through several changes of software. I loved my MasterCook Mac, but had to give it up when Apple went to OSX. Then I “went to the dark side” and used a PC for a couple years. Now I’m so happy to be back on a Mac again, but had to go through the long process of evaluating the recipe management programs available for Macs. I tried: macgourmet, cook’n, shopncook, a cooks books, yummy soup, cookware deluxe, computer cuisine, pretty much anything that was available for the Mac!

There were 3 main things I was looking for: great importing capabilities from both text files as well as other formats, a user friendly menu planner so I can create menus for upcoming clients weeks in advance with drag/drop capabilities, and a comprehensive shopping list function that identifies aisles in store and lets me organize them as they occur where I shop (not having to put them in myself!) I was at my wit’s end as none of them did EVERYTHING that I needed to do! It was so frustrating!! By chance, as I was deciding to “settle” for one of the above programs that at least did MOST of what I wanted, I came across TheRecipeManager and decided that I was willing to try and l boy, am I glad I did!!

In a few hours, I had most of my recipes imported and categorized from the old software program, was planning menus and printing out shopping lists! Hooray! Your User Guide is fairly easy to follow and very comprehensive. Thanks for making me not miss my MasterCook anymore!!

More than just a recipe, a family heirloom.

We recently had a customer whose computer crashed leaving him without a backup of his recipes. He contacted us and we were only too happy to help retrieve his recipes. It turned out that these were more than just a list of ingredients and instructions; they were a narrative covering several generations of a family who moved to the new world to start a new life. Read on at the bottom of the page about what another customer thinks of the new release and how we support our customers.

The story behind these recipes is really a wonderful one. In 1914, at age 19, my wife’s great-grandmother came over from Naples, Italy, with her infant daughter (my wife’s grandmother.) Her husband had already come to the US, where he worked in a coal mine in Kansas. After raising enough money to send for his wife and infant daughter, they arrived through Ellis Island and later moved to Stockton, California. In Stockton, the family opened Guya-Delucci Italian Deli, where they used recipes from the old country.

We had the recipes printed, but they were lost by an elderly aunt about 2 weeks before my computer crashed. Thank you so much. My wife sobbed. I can’t thank you enough. I cannot tell you what this means to her (and to me.) We now have the recipes printed, and plan to distribute copies to several family members.

But probably the best part is TRM's customer support

When I purchased my first Mac in the early 90s the first thing I did was buy a recipe manager although it was expensive. It worked exactly as I wanted and fell in love with it. But shortly they quit developing for Macs. And as things go with system upgrades and all it was soon unusable. I then set about buying and trying out anything I could find on tucows and versiontracker..

In November 2004 I finally found TheRecipeManager. Not only does it display my 18,000 recipes in an easy to see fashion but allows me to back up all of them with one click! Importing recipes from web pages is so easy. I love being able to look in my fridge for whatever I have on hand and enter those ingredients into The Recipe Manager. Last night it immediately brought up every recipe that had "cabbage" in it.

But probably the best part is TRM's customer support. I've only had to contact them twice over the years and have ALWAYS had a response within hours. When I upgraded to the latest version I needed help, well I really needed to read the "Read Me" but who does that? Support had me happy within a short time!

The Perfect Cooking Combination - Charlene Sundblad, a devoted user

I have been so thrilled to use TheRecipeManager program, that I specifically purchased a computer for my kitchen. I chose a Mac Notebook with a 13 inch screen. It is a perfect fit on my kitchen counter and because fonts are LARGE in the view screen, I can see the recipe from all work space angles. The timing of this fell on Fathers day weekend. Seizing the moment, (instead of waiting until the following week to display and show off TRM) I presented my husband with a new computer and TRM! He smiled and said for Mothers day he would be buying me a new set of Pings! (As you may guess, I don't play golf!) The fun things is he is now using TRM for his special cook times!-tho, I am guessing I might have to learn to play golf soon.
